The planning system that stays with you between the goal and the outcome.

You set the goals. You committed to the quarter. And then the plan started drifting from the work, the way it always does.

There's a name for that gap. It's drift. And in a world where your work is moving at AI speed, drift is accelerating. The gap that used to take a quarter to open now takes a month.

It's easy to think it's you. It almost never is. The frameworks you're working with were built to set the goal and walk away. The middle was always going to be on you.

GEMs is built for the middle. Not as a system you pick up at the offsite and put down on the way out, but as a partner that stays with you the whole way: quarterly, monthly, weekly. Methodical. Eyes wide open. So your experiments stay aligned and your work stays connected to the goal you set.

What GEMs is

GEMs stands for Goal → Experiments → Measures. The arrow between each word is deliberate. You start with a goal, brainstorm experiments that might move you toward it, and only then figure out how to measure whether the experiments worked.

Goal, the future you want to create, leads to Experiments, the ideas you'll test to get there, which leads to Measures, how you'll know they're working.

How that's different from what you've already tried

If you've used OKRs, you know the gap. Objectives and Key Results give you a goal and a way to know if you got there. They don't give you the path between the two. GEMs puts the path, the experiments, at the center.

If you've used SMART goals, you know the squeeze. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound tries to pack the goal and the measure into a single statement, which makes goal-setting feel like a measurement exercise instead of a thinking exercise. GEMs separates them on purpose, so you can dream about the goal before you worry about the measure.

If you've used EOS Rocks, you know the limit. Quarterly Rocks are good at naming what to focus on, but they're not always built around testable hypotheses, and they don't always come with a clear path from rock to outcome. GEMs reframes every initiative as a hypothesis you can test and learn from.

GEMs isn't trying to replace any of these. If your company already runs on OKRs, SMART goals, or EOS, GEMs layers underneath them as the implementation system that was always missing.

A planning rhythm that stays with you

Most planning frameworks wake up once a year, at the offsite. GEMs runs all year long.

The GEMs planning rhythm moves through five connected horizons: Annual Set, Quarterly Evaluate, Monthly Focus, Weekly Move, and Daily Do.

The annual plan sets your direction. Every quarter, you evaluate which experiments are working and which aren't. Every month, you score the measures and decide what to change. Every week, you keep the active work moving and clear the blockers. And daily, every person on your team can trace what they're working on back to the goal it serves.

This is what staying with you between the goal and the outcome actually looks like. Not a slide deck. A rhythm.
